UKTFA targets suppliers

21 March 2007

The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) today launched a quality assurance scheme for suppliers of the timber frame industry.

Q-Mark for Suppliers will be a mandatory requirement in future procurement by UKTFA timber frame manufacturers. It will apply equally to a wide range of companies, including providers of timber based products, engineered wood products, ventilation and insulation products, software suppliers and specialist consultants to the industry.

Bryan Woodley, chief executive of the UKTFA, said: "The incorporation of the supply chain within our long-standing Q-Mark scheme makes it the only fully integrated quality assurance scheme in the construction sector, covering all facets of the business from suppliers through to designers, manufacturers and site erectors.  At a time of unprecedented growth in the timber frame market, this is our credible means of standardising and maintaining high levels of quality products and services across the industry."

The scheme will initially cover the five key structural categories of the timber frame supply chain - plasterboard, timber, sheathing materials, engineered wood products and fixings.

To apply for the scheme, companies must provide information on health and safety, insurance and compliance with relevant codes and standards. In addition they should have achieved quality management accreditations.
