The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) said it is targeting contractors with a free information service.
Housebuilders, developers and contractors can access its technical helpline and training information. The UKTFA will also keep contractors up to date with timber frame industry developments.
The association said its free of charge client membership category will allow it to reach and engage with wider parts of the building and development community.
Client membership will also include benefits such as invitations to key meetings, discounts on the UKTFA's extensive list of technical and marketing literature, as well as access to relevant training materials.
An additional low cost associate membership is available to architects, engineers, surveyors, students and consultants.
UKTFA membership manager Bob Davis said: "If we want to ensure that timber frame remains the number one choice among eco-conscious housebuilders, developers and contractors then we need to open up our channels of communications to a wider community.
"By creating a new membership structure, we can ensure that clients of the timber frame industry can keep abreast of the latest developments as well as having access to our technical and training experts."
