Outstanding design

Only developments with the wow factor need apply for this category. We’re looking for projects that show timber off in all its glory as a versatile, modern material that prove glowing endorsements for future designers. If you think your project makes awe-inspiring use of external timber, or produces breathtaking effects with exposed internal wood, this is the category for you.

Schools that inspire

Creating environments that foster academic excellence is a challenge that designers have shown they are keen to take up. The schools for the future must provide flexible learning spaces that nurture warm, welcoming surroundings. Timber is the natural material to help to achieve this goal. If you’ve created schools that inspire their students, this is your opportunity to show them off in all their glory.

Achievement in engineering

From long span timber structures to elegant curved effects, timber is at the forefront of technological advances. This category will look at how engineers and architects are using the latest in materials technology to overcome challenging design issues and make timber the material of choice.

Best in British timber

This category aims to reward those designers ready to take up the challenge of obtaining their materials from local sources to create stunning and environmentally sound buildings. Whether you’ve used solid, structural oak or beautiful birch, we want to find the homegrown heroes.

High-rise honour

Timber frame erectors have the challenge of constructing taller and taller buildings as they strive to meet the need for quality 21st Century housing or meet the stringent demands of clients wanting their hotels and retail schemes built faster. Although timber has great potential for many housebuilders and commercial clients alike, it is often limited to low-rise developments. We’re looking for projects that break the boundaries and reach for the skies. We want to show that the only way is up for timber frame.

Pride in public buildings

What better way to show civic pride and engage people in their local communities than with beautifully designed buildings that are stunning to look at and fit their users’ needs. From hospitals to libraries, universities to municipal buildings, timber is solidly in the public realm. Do you have a project that’s a people’s favourite?

Superior social housing

Social housing providers are among the most challenging clients to work for. Contractors and designers have to provide durable, energy efficient buildings to strict budgets that take into account the tenants’ often demanding needs. Timber is showing it is the material of choice for social housing projects, providing fast build times with convivial living environments. We want to hear about those projects that are housing the nation.

Housebuilding excellence

We’re looking for those private housebuilding projects that combine the luxurious, tactile qualities of timber with its structural strength to create the most enviable living space in the country. This is an opportunity for contractors, designers and developers to show off their housebuilding projects, with spectacular facades and lavish interiors that show timber off as the plushest product on the market.

Supreme sport and leisure development

As the nation gears up to 2012, the UK strives to achieve excellence in its sports and leisure projects, from local sports halls and swimming pools to large public arenas. When all eyes are on London for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we’re hoping to show off sports facilities that will enthuse and inspire the rest of the world.

Greatest in timber frame

Image

This is the top accolade in this year’s Timber in Construction Awards. We’re looking for that timber frame firm that is a shining advertisement for the industry. Quality of work is a must, but timber frame suppliers must be able to demonstrate a high level of engagement with their clients’ needs to provide a smooth construction process with a truly inspiring finished product.
