John Brash, the specialist timber importer, has recently supplied its Western Red Cedar cladding on the new Exmouth Life Boat Station, which is owned by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
The RNLI is a registered charity providing on call, 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service from more than 230 stations across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
The station is the second for the town and will be used to house several hightech lifeboats and its 25 strong crew. John Brash’s Western Red Cedar cladding will be used for the station souvenir shop and on the underside of the roof of the building.
The durable properties of Western Red Cedar will enable it to withstand the severe gales and rain often experienced along this stretch of coastline – which has prevailing winds from the Atlantic. The RNLI now use Western Red Cedar in many of its refurbishments throughout the UK because of this.
The Western Red Cedar cladding is also lightweight, durable and allows for greater flexibility in design - fitting in with both traditional and more modern styles.
Christian Brash, managing director at John Brash, said: “We were delighted to be supplying cladding for such a well deserving project. The RNLI is known throughout the UK for being an extraordinary charity that has saved over 137,000 lives since they were set up. Not only that but all of their crew are volunteers with full time jobs to contend with!â€
